A construction total station is set-out for crews who have moved past stringline. Manual TS01-class instruments still run most Australian building sites that are not on a robotic. Tripod, prism, a person who can actually use it.
How to choose
- Building set-out: a manual construction station, not a monitoring instrument.
- You need a tripod, prism and pole. The box is not the kit.
- If the crew has never used one, start with an auto level and a DISTO. A TS is not a first instrument.

- Do I need a robotic?
- Not for most building set-out. A manual station and a second person on the prism still puts more points in the ground per hour than a crew learning a robot.
- What accuracy?
- Construction 5–7 second is enough for pads, grids and hold-downs. Save the 1-second kit for the survey firm.
