Utility locators Australia

Locate before you dig. A cable-avoidance locator and a transmitter find live power, comms and traceable pipe so the bucket does not. Sondes and trace rods follow non-metallic line. A magnet locator finds the valve lid you covered last year. Different tools, same morning.

How to choose

  • Civil excavation: a DD120-class avoidance kit with transmitter and clamp.
  • Non-metallic pipe or conduit: add a sonde and a trace rod.
  • Covered valve boxes and survey marks: a ferromagnetic locator (VM-880 / Maggie).
  • Sonde camera work: a vLoc3-Cam, not a CAT.

  • What you need to install stormwater

Pipe laser, remote, target, spare battery. Tripod if you shoot over the trench. That is the stormwater kit — not a rotating laser on the bank.

FAQ

Is a locator a drain camera?
No. A locator finds the line. A camera sees inside it. You often want both on a blocked drain — locate the run, then push the reel.
Do I need GPS on the locator?
Only if you are mapping for a client. For avoidance before a dig, skip it.
