ROTATING LASERS
Rugby 610 vs 620
If you pour level house slabs, buy the 610. If you need to match a fall in one direction, buy the 620. Two-way fall is a Rugby 640 (manual dual) or 680 (dial-in dual). The laser is half the kit — get the All-in-One so the receiver, tripod and staff show up in the same carton.
What is the actual difference?
Both throw a self-levelling horizontal plane a receiver can read in the sun. The 610 is one button — level, done. The 620 adds manual slope in a single axis (up to 8%) so you can match an existing driveway fall. It is not dual-grade. Dual-grade in this family is the 640 (manual, both axes, also goes vertical) or the 680 (dial-in dual). If you never slope the plane, you are paying for a 620 you will run as a 610.
What does not change
Receiver colour still has to match the beam. You still need a flat-head tripod and a 5 m staff. Li-ion still beats alkaline on a week-long pour. A 610 without a tripod is not cheaper. It is unfinished.
When TUF is the honest answer
If this is the second kit for a junior crew, or the laser lives in a tray that copes a slab, look at the TUF 208 kit before you buy another Rugby. Same 5/8 thread. Less of a funeral if it goes in the pour. 208G is green — you still need a green receiver, not a Rod Eye 160.

FAQ
- Can I add dual grade later?
- No. A 610 does not grow slope. A 620 does not grow a second axis. You buy the 640 or 680.
- Is the 620 more accurate?
- Slightly on paper. Not in a way you will notice on a house pad. It is more functions, not magic millimetres.
